BRCCC 2008 Round 1 Season 1
Race Report - 1/29/2008 8:48:43 PM

Greetings all.

The weekend of the 26th Jan 08 saw the BRCCC guys and gals preparing for Round One of Season One of the 2008 Club Championship. The first race of the 2008 Calendar and the first race meeting for the new committee so everyone was holding their breaths to see if the planning was on the mark.

Saturday 26th January.
Many of the drivers arrived for some final practice and setups and controlled practice sessions ran smoothly with both the Nitro and Electric classes juggling for some valuable track time. Traction was not to bad and the sweeper was a bit scratchy. Weather had not played the game with the wind blowing since the Tuesday so the much anticipated VHT remain packed away but always ready in the hopes of the wind dropping. The PE boys arrived early and enjoyed the chance to get some much deserved track time. At the end of the day most driver seemed settled in and pretty ready for race day. The canteen ladies were ready and feeding the hungry with their large range of foodies and cold drinks not to mention the ice cold beers when the sun started settling

Sunday 27th January – Race Day.
Due to the excellent marketing efforts from our NEW Marketing Manager Saturday saw an impressive spectator turn out with Sunday being an absolute shocker for the canteen staff who saw over 300 hungry & thirsty mouths standing in front of the canteen window over the day but as always, they took up the challenge and although the canteen had to be re stocked at least 3 times during the day they managed to keep the masses comfortable. The spectators stayed and enjoyed what proved to be a very exciting day with some very impressive driving skills being demonstrated by some of the drivers and the ooh’s and wow’s could be heard when close driving or spills were seen.

Down to the Race and Qualifiers.
The electric drivers arrived and were faced with a brand new track layout but picked up the challenge none the less

Club Stock Heat one saw the ladies dominating with Cristine Hutchinson winning the first heat in her TC3 with Leanne de bruin coming in a close second with her Serpent S400 and the fist gent home in 3rd place was Wayne Greyvenstein in his Tamiya TT01. Heat two say some retirements but again it was the ladies with Leanne crossing the line just in time an sneaking in an extra lap over Cristine to take first place this time. Heat three saw Leanne dominate again with a “PIT Modified” S400 after her CVD broke and “close replacement” saw the guys rally to modify her cars upright with a dremel and other un mentionables to get the replacement CVD to fit and I think the results speak for them selves.

Club Stock Heat Two was the PE boys time to shine with Andy Farley taking first place with his TC3 and doing 19 laps in 06:08.763 with an average of 19.408 per lap. Second was Brett Croucamp also in a TC3 with 17 laps followed in third place by local boy Travis Fourie also running a TC3. Heat two positions finished the same but the third round saw Trisha Musto bouncing back to third place after some repairs and setups were done with her Serpent S400.

Superstock Sprints. The first two heats saw local boys Brandon Pletschke and Wayne Greyventein taking first and second respectively but with Travis Fourie managing a second to Brandon in the final sprint of the day. Heat 2 in the Superstock class saw Jaco Havenga take the top spot in his very hopped up Robitronic chassis and Barend and Wade in their Serpent S400’s taking the next two positions respectively. Althought the first two slots remained unchanged first time racer Trisha Musto contended and successfully defended third place in her S400. The last sprint in this class saw Trisha retire due to a broken diff and let Barend, Jaco and Wade take the top three positions.

GT Modified class saw the Serpent S400’s dominate the class with PE’s Raymond Loots dominate the first two heats with a best round of 19 laps in just 05:08.055 giving him and average of 16.213 seconds a lap. Brett, Travis and Kevin Fourie and Barend all had turns in sharing the second and third positions but Brett managed to come back in the final sprint a pip Raymond to take the top spot pushing him to second.

ELECTRIC FINALS
The club stock class saw the TC3 dominate and Andy take the honors for the day with Travis Fourie, Brett Croucamp taking second and third respectively. Fourth place saw the ladies holding on with Cristine only 2 laps down from the veteran racer Andy. The boys better watch out because it seems there are a few girls that intend showing they guys a thing or two.

Supetstock. After a few retirements we say Barend take the TOP SLOT with 17 laps in 05:16.487 followed closely and just missing his extra lap was Brandon in his TC4 with 16 laps in 05:18.684. Third place was Jaco in his Robitronics.
The electric drivers had a fantastic time and with the spectator base that was present over the weekend we are definitely expecting a few new drivers. The border boys are back in the game with fresh new drivers practicing to challenge that National guys so watch this space for future updates.

A very big thanks to the new commitee who has proven their worth and Travis Edmond the new Race Director who faced his first test by fire and pulled off a clean glitch free race meeting. Also a speacial thanks to all the sponsors, Radio Algoa, Fab Video Productions and all those who contributed. A very Special thanks to the ladies in the canteen that worked so hard to ensure that the participants and spectators alike had all they needed. To the new Chairman, Porky, thank you for a great weekend.
